lucky, lucky

so, i left my ipod on the deck last night when i got home from my run. this wouldn't really matter except that it's been RAINING since about 10pm! i didn't go looking for it until just now - found it soaked on the outside table. i think it's okay - it is currently playing in its dock, but the headphones seem a little wonky. i'm SO glad it's playing - all i could think was, 'man - pete's gonna kill me!' :)

7 continents. 6.6 billion people. 1 hour.

This Saturday, March 29th, from 8pm to 9pm is Earth Hour 2008- businesses and homes all around the world will turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances to promote electricity conservation. Last year, Earth Hour Sydney is estimated to have cut Sydney's mains electricity consumption by between 2.1% and 10.2% for that hour, with as many as 2.2 million people taking part.
I'm super-excited about this!! I read about it in the paper sometime last week, then promptly forgot about it. Luckily, it was in the bulletin this weekend at church, so I was reminded - and a plan started to form in my head.
I think we should all get together at my house and play board games by candlelight - or maybe play charades (as long as Rachael can come)- and we can make s'mores in the fireplace! If you're not a Lexingtonian, think about the fun things you could do in your city for that hour - perhaps go for a nice long neighborhood walk, or have a pot-luck with friends - I know you creative Texans will come up with something great!

something entertaining to finish off the week!

I love this song! Imagine me and Pete at our house singing, "Hannah, the Blackish Pooch"

Best Week Ever!!!...and it's only Wednesday!

I knew I was in for a good week when Melanie arrived at the office Monday morning and wanted to know if I had time in the afternoon for a 'Beginning of Season Treat' -- that's right, not only do I get to work with one of the nicest, most talented people ever, but we have TREATS at the beginning of wedding season and at the end! So, most of my work day Monday was spent getting a f.a.n.t.a.s.t.i.c. pedicure next to my lovely employer!

Then, this afternoon, I found out I've been accepted into the Communication Disorders Program at UK! (Yes, I already have a bachelor's degree, I've been admitted as a Pre-Requisite Student, which means they allow me to take a year's worth of courses so that I will be able to apply to the graduate program.) If all goes well, I've got about 3 more years worth of school ahead of me to become a Speech-Language Pathologist! (the master's in teaching was sort-of a plan B if I didn't get into CD)

I haven't actually gotten the paperwork yet, but I called the Admissions Office this afternoon and the nice lady on the phone told me that the packets had been mailed out Monday and that she couldn't tell me anything.......except, "Congratulations!" Yippee! I started crying and thanked her for making my day.

FINALLY, I feel like I have some goals for myself.

well, Crap.

Master of Arts in Teaching

Due to the budget constraints, the courses for new students in the Elementary MAT program will NOT be offered in Summer 2008, Fall 2008, or Spring 2009. You may still apply, but applications will not be considered until April 2009, for admission in May 2009.

Now what am I supposed to do?!?!?

Whoo-hoo!

I made a 98% on my Linguistics midterm! (nothing boosts the ego quite like a sophomore-level English class)

50-days-of-fitness

Happy March First! Spring will be here before we know it!

I'm going to try to exercise for at least 30-minutes a day, for 50 days in a row.....crazy, huh? Wanna join me? I started a Google Group and my brother made us workout log (he's already joined the group along with four other people). We record our activity, the duration, and any comments. I think this is going to be just the thing I need to shake off the Februaries! Pete has been doing a running version and it has been a bit of a challenge -- even for him. But if you know you are going to have a day where you won't exercise, you can bank one or make it up, by exercising more than once in one day.

Let me know if you want to join and I'll invite you (I didn't want the group to be public and visible to the whole internet). If I already have your email and thought there was even a CHANCE you'd join, I've probably already sent you an invite!

I'm off to take Hannah for a walk (day one - check!)
