July 2015.

ready for the parade at school
  • We missed Grandma Prann's 90th Birthday Party because my first day of work was the following Sunday.  It just didn't seem wise to be driving home from Pennsylvania the day before starting a new job.  Grandma totally understood, but still, it was hard not to celebrate with her.  This is only important because the last week or so of June we were on the phone and she mentioned really missing me and wishing she could see the girls.  SO - we hopped in the car and drove to Pa. for the 3-day-weekend!  I still had do some paperwork after we arrived on Friday, so Pete took Ellie outside while Caroline napped.  They made a Tom Sturgis run while they were out, taking our official "We've arrived in Reading" picture.  The parade/pool day ended up being cancelled because of rain, but we still went to Anna's house in the morning, saw family, and almost ate ourselves out of our patriotic outfits.  Everyone came back over to Aunt Susie's for dinner, and late, late that night, once the girls were sleeping, Aunt Susie, Pete, and I hiked across the yard to watch the fireworks from the top of the hill.  We stopped by Grandma's one last time before hitting the road Sunday morning.

  • We took the girls to see a movie after several days of rain - we saw "Inside Out," the saddest movie ever.

  • Aunt Susie has a great tricycle for Beckham that Caroline loved riding during our visit.  So when we got home, we got one for her!  She's not quite big enough for our skut bike, and I can push this one when we need to catch up with her speedster of a sister.
  • Still went to the pool every weekend that was sunny.
  • National Ice Cream Day.
  • Our friend Audrey had her annual birthday Tea Party at her VeeVee's house - and Caroline was included, too!

Ellie and Annie
  • Another Sunday morning at the pool.  We were almost always the only ones there from 10-11:30.

the hats!
  • Ellie took ballet/tap for six (eight?) weeks this summer on Monday evenings.  On the final class day, parents were invited in to see what they had been learning.

June 2015

  • June 1st our mornings got much MUCH easier.  Prior to June 1, the girls went to two separate day care centers, which meant really hectic mornings as Caroline's daycare was a car ride away.  But in June she started attending the Hearing and Speech Center with Ellie - which is just down the street from our house.  We love walking the girls to and from school each day, it is one of our favorite times together.
  • June 4th 2015 was our Tenth Wedding Anniversary.  Pete was out of town.  BUT!  He had our neighbor Josh use his key to have flowers waiting for me when I arrived home from work.  AND!  He took a picture of my wedding bouquet to the florist to use as inspiration for the arrangement.  Not too shabby.
  • Not much else happened this month.  We went to the pool whenever possible, Pete traveled a bit, I took silly videos of the girls.
  • Caroline sang her favorite song all the time in June
  • Have you heard of Dubsmash?  It's a silly app that videos you lip-synching snippets of popular songs.  We had a TON of fun with it one night.  Haven't really done anything with it since.

One weekend day I dutch braided Ellie's hair into a crown.  Was really proud of that one. ;-)

 This happened:

  Father's Day:

Ellie drew pictures of her family at school.  She said Daddy was the one on the top left because of all the facial hair!!

May 2015

  • In Kentucky there's a school dress-up day for Derby.

  • Emily hosted a Derby Party at her house - we had great fun, and the girls had a race!

  • Ellie passed the time waiting for her pediatrician to come in for her 4 y.o. well-check by serenading anyone who might be listening at the nurse's station.  When Dr. Nelson arrived, he said he thought she belonged on the stage.  And that she was off the charts tall.  Height: 43.5" (98%), weight: 38 lbs (73%)

  • We went to Asheville, NC for a long weekend at the Grove Park Inn over Mother's Day.  It's a wonderful spa/retreat/hotel that would be perfect for a girl's weekend, or a romantic getaway.  For a family of four, it was, well....an adventure would put it nicely.  We struggled to have something to do during the day, and the childcare we tried to arrange through the hotel (as they advertise on their website and Pete tried to arrange WAY in advance) fell through so we were not able to enjoy the spa together at all.  The pool that is open to all guests, not just spa guests, did not open until Memorial day (insert frowny face.)  But the Wheelers drove in for one day, so that was really fun!  And our last-resort trip to Target to buy puzzles and more activities for the girls resulted in the find of the summer - the Straw Hats.  So - live and learn.  Our family is not yet ready to stay in hotel for a few days if anyone is going to sleep and/or nap.  Also, group picture = herding cats.

    • Ellie 'graduated' from preschool!  We loved being in the Robin room with Ms. Jill!

    • We're mad for madras at our house.

    • Run for the Nun was the last Saturday in the month.  This is the race Pete ran the morning of our wedding.  He placed 2nd in his age group this year.  Ellie ran the kids one-mile this year!

    • One of Ellie's classmates hosted a Robin-room Roundup to celebrate their fun year together.  The most amazing balloon-animal guy was there - he made so many amazing things, including a monkey on a palm-tree with coconuts hat for Pete (not pictured.)

    • Caitlyn turned four!  And Caroline was caught sneaking cupcakes before they had been served.
