(Fat Tuesday to you lay people out there)
I didn't think I was going to get them made this year - Lent is starting so early, I have class from 5-9pm on Tuesdays, we didn't have any potatoes, I'm sort of anti-fat....but I did it! I've been making Pennsylvania-Dutch Potato Doughnuts on Shrove Tuesday for about as long as I can remember. They are the reason I own a Fry Daddy! If you've ever been my roommate, worked with me, or were in Thomesen's European History class at CHS, you've probably had them - they're warm, they're sugary, they're fattening - that's why I only make them once a year:
My mom and I would always make them together - I can't remember if the boys helped or not, but my job was to shake them in the sugars - I would have one bag of cinnamon and one bag of powdered sugar and I would shake them all around the kitchen.
I think it's important that I keep up with traditions from my family - especially since not a single one of us live in the same state. So all of you Carters out there - feel free to head on over to our house for some Fastnachts, but they're going fast!! LOVE YOU MOM!!
