I've been so excited about my Sheldon the Turtle project. I had his body knit, and his legs, and his shell, and his shell panel, and then it came to attaching them all together and it said, on page five out of six, to CROCHET around the trim of the shell. I am a knitter, I have NO IDEA how to crochet! So I looked it up on the internet and Friday night I sat with Sheldon's shell in my hand and my computer on my lap, and managed to crochet in a single row around the edge. I thought I was home free. But no...
I get to the paragraph entitled Finishing, and I'm supposed to use an I-cord to attach the shell and attachment panel together, with the WS together?!?!? If you go to knitty.com, look up Sheldon the Turtle and on the last page of the pattern, the second paragraph under finishing --what am I supposed to do? I can't envision it and am pretty much ready to put it away forever.
So to distract me from my Sheldon worries, I started on a scarf to replace the one Hannah chewed that goes with my favorite coat.

he's way too cute to give up.. Dec 9th were updates to the sheldon pattern on Knitty.com by the author.. so If your printed version was b/f then I would go back and look .. I'm not sure I understand the I-cord instructions they have.. obviously I know how to do an I-cord.. But it seems like you are picking up 2 stitches (one top one bottom) and -- it only talks about slipping over one st. SO ??? I'll stop harassing you about him.. I would be sooo frustrated with him too.. Maybe I'll send an email to the Sheldon's "mom" with a link to your page.. and see what happens.. maybe she can give us insight.. I would love to try it.. .but NOW scared.. :D ENJOY
Oh scarf looks good too.. Love the color -- pic refuses to open larger tho...
WOW! I'm super impressed with the knitting! That scarf is going to be precious! ... Hope all is well! Can't wait to hear more about the show! :)
Help has arrived!...
So I started my own Sheldon last week.. and I'm working on the I-cord to connect the shell and "attachment shell"... If you are still stuck on it.. this is how I interpreted the directions... Cast on 4 -- knit 3 slip 1.. pick up one stitch in each the shell and att. piece.. knit two together.. slip - slipped stitch over the picked up stitch.. It's a pain in the arse too.. I've worked for the past hour.. on only worked to the first set of leg holes.. of course I dropped a few and had to start over twice.. but what do you do..On the Sheldon blog.. the lady said a few people have passed on the I-cord and just crocheted the two pieces together.. ??
Good Luck..
